touch becomes color
move slowly across the sphere. texture, topology, and light will gather around your gesture.Color is a single channel. Texture is three. Before your eye registers hue, your nervous system has already processed surface topology — the micro-geometry of a thing — and its haptic register: smooth, resistant, yielding, abrasive. Color rides on top of that substrate. Change the surface, and the same pigment reads differently.
This sphere maps that fuller space. X is hue — the chromatic longitude. Y is topology — how much the surface departs from flat, from glassy calm through ripple through full roughness. Z is haptic quality — the felt dimension: silk at one pole, stone at the other, velvet and linen and burlap between.
Any point on the sphere is a complete sensory coordinate. Not just a color — a color-as-it-would-feel. The same warm amber reads differently as polished lacquer versus raw beeswax versus coarse linen. The sphere holds all three readings simultaneously, which is closer to how the body actually perceives surfaces in the world.
